all in a day’s work… passion, pride & the daily grind

Posted by The Dharma Door USA in Stories, Travels on June 25, 2014

Throughout our lives, William & I have had the luxury of following our passions in our careers. At a young age he set his heart on becoming a chef… starting out at a local family restaurant, honing his skills in the Navy by cooking daily for 120+ submariners, and fully realizing that dream at a Bay Area restaurant & hotel. Passion for good food & pride in his growing skills kept him moving forward. My own dream of working in film & television production was also fueled by such a drive. Starting out as a production secretary & several years as an associate producer, I made my way through many lessons & bumps to becoming a producer. Our shared business, William’s Antiks, is one we are both very proud of. Turning our love of antiques and quirky vintage treasures into a way to make a living, has been a dream come true. We take pride in hard work & have realized many dreams along the way.

Launching The Dharma Door here in the US has been another such venture of the heart. Fueled by our passions for good design, beautifully made products & quality of life, this new path holds the promise of many lessons and triumphs ahead.

On a recent trip to Bangladesh, William had the incredible opportunity to personally connect with several of our artisan groups.

The chance to see first-hand how the lives of these women & their families are positively changed by the work that they do, was such a gift. Their incredible talents shine within each of our products. From the intricate and precise weaving of jute, to the printing of our handmade papers, and sewing of our original fabrics & loomed baskets, they take pride in their work and artistry.  William returned from the trip inspired, excited to tell the stories behind our beautiful products.

When you purchase our products, you become a part of the story.  A ripple of positive change that makes a difference in the world.
